Mechanical Engineer by occupation, and a true all-rounder in life.
During the 5 years I worked as an Engineer, I created numerous automated measuring machines for the automotive industry, and various structures to make Art Directors’ imaginations a reality. By doing different seasonal jobs abroad, such as being a kitesurf instructor, I managed to master a broad set of hard and soft skills not only in Engineering, but also in different trades.

Salesforce hanging signage
We got a project, to manufacture a cloud shaped hanging signage, with the dimensions of ~1500x2100x150mm. Once we got the drawings I realized that the wire cable attachment points are below the center of gravity of the signage, therefore I suggested to redesign it.
I created an assembly in Solidworks, redesigned the frame and designed brackets centered to the C.O.G with fine tuning slots on it.
Structure design for an Oscar winning movie set
I had the opportunity to design some of the structures that build up Lisbon inside one of Europe’s largest studio. We got a surface model of the walls from the Art Department, which showed the dimensions of the buildings, and the positions of the windows and doors, My responsibility was to design a hollow section structure that allows the carpenters and sculptors to build up the desired facade on the outside.
Once the 3D design was done, we sent the files for a Structural Engineer to certify it. My responsibilities didn’t end here, once the drawings were done I was actively contributing in our workshop to prepare all of the separate walls, then to raise up the frames in the studio.
Low poly Mustang for a film set
As per usual we got a surface model as a starting point, in this case it was a low poly version of the Eleanor from “Gone in 60 seconds” movie.
The biggest challenge in this project was to create sheet metal parts from the original model’s twisted surfaces. Once the parts were ready, we sent them to laser cut and CNC bend, then started to assemble the body.
Even though there was only so much design work with this one, me being the Project Manager I was helping the metalworkers to sort out any questions about the parts and positioning, purchased all of the commercial parts and followed through the whole building process.
Automotive shaft measuring machine
The customer’s need was a semi-automatic machine which is capable of measuring different
diameters, runouts and ovalities of 5 different shafts, with no more than 20 min changeover time.
My responsibility was to design the machine, create the drawings and all the necessary documentation for it. I used Solidworks for this project, and created and assembly with several subassemblies.
The measuring method in this case, was to use a pair of digital measuring transducers 180° from each other to measure diameters, and use one – either angular or linear – measuring
transducers to measure the runout, while the workpiece is held and rotated between two rotating centers.
The repeatability test, measuring the same shaft 10 times, taking them out and feeding them again to the machine, showed less than a micron difference between all the tests on all parameters. As both my company, and the customer were happy with the results, we planted the machine to the customer’s factory.
